Camp Update – May 3rd, 2008

Wow!!!  It seemed like just a few weeks ago, we started to accept applications for our 2008 Tri-State Elite Girls Volleyball College Prospect Camp, and we are pleased to announce that we have hit the 180 Camper mark!

This is a very important number, because we committed to opening the 6th and final court, if we reached that mark.  This allows us to accept an additional 30 Campers.  We will be adding an additional three college coaches (TBA) to our staff to accommodate the additional campers.  Remember, we have "AM" and "PM" waves.  The maximum # of campers per wave will be 105, and with the six courts, we will have about a 4.5 camper to instructor ratio.

Some details about the registered campers thus far:

  • 180 campers from 12 states (PA., Ohio, West Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Michigan, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Indiana, Texas).
  • 71 Colleges and/or universities have committed to attending, instructing, and recruiting.
  • 66 JO Clubs Represented – This is most amazing fact of all.   Your commitment to making your players better, and providing them with information regarding their future, is the reason this number is so high.  We can only "humbly" extend a "Thank you" to those who have shown confidence in referring our camp.
  • Camp Dates – June 27th – June 29th, 2008 (check-in – June 26th)

Location:        Robert Morris University – Moon Twp, Pa.

Cost:               $295.00 for overnight campers (over 70% of the camp)

Including all meals, overnight accommodations, t shirts, and

                        all camp "off-court" session

                        $200.00 for the commuter

Including two meals daily, t shirts, and all camp "off-court"

                        sessions.

With many of the players still in the JO season, and traveling, we decided to extend the time for payment.  For just a $75.00 deposit, the balance can be paid for May 15th, 2008.

Remember, this is the place to "be seen"

We are more that just a camp!

04/07/2008 - 12U PROGRAM A SUCCESS!

NFVB 12 AND UNDER PROGRAM DEVELOPS YOUNG ATHLETES

Professional basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar once stated "One man can be a crucial ingredient on a team, but one man cannot make a team". After sitting down and talking with Coach Lonni Wilson as well as looking at the final outcome of the 12U Regional teams successes in tournament play thus far in the season it is evident that the program focuses on team interaction and the development of a strong work ethic. After asking Coach Wilson about the 12 and under programs he said that the teams have "progressed" and "matured" as athletes. "They are a great group of girls that work hard and have fun" said Wilson. As of March 15, 2008 the Red Regional squad has a record of 14-3-1. And the Blue Regional squad has a record of 10-10. The 12U Blue team has achieved 1st place and 3rd place finish in two out of the 4 tournaments played thus far in the season. The 12U Red team has placed 1st in two different tournaments as well as 3rd in another highly competitive Ohio tournament. Being involved in a team sport at an early age can be looked at as a difficult task, but when Participating on the right team with the right coaches it can also be looked at as a good life lesson. Coach Wilson states being involved in sports at a young age can be "helpful with many parts of your life". Not only to help you stay fit but to help athletes "make friends" and ‘be competitive". Not only have these players progressed individually but with help of the Niagara Frontier Volleyball club they have learned what it truly is to be on a team and work hard together for something you really want.

01/21/2008 - MLK TOURNAMENT A SUCCESS!

The 13 National NFVB takes the title of the 14U tournament in a hard fought, three game battle with the 14 Regional NFVB! Both teams played exceptional volleyball and displayed outstanding sportsmanship! Great job to the teams and coaches!

In the 16U Division finals, the NFVB 14 National team went to three games, but were ultimately defeated by the Win City 16-1 team. The 14 National team should be commended on their finish! Coaches Chan and Memminger should be proud of the accomplishments of this young team!

In the 18U division, it was another all NFVB final, with the powerful 18 National team ultimately taking the top title. Great performance by the rnner up 17 National team throughout the tournament!

A special thank you to Todd Kamenash, the NFVB tournament director for his work to organize this event. Great job!! Thank you to all of the coaches and teams. Spectators were provided with very exciting matches throughout the weekend.

01/18/2008 - HEATHER HENRY - 2007 NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR OF THE YEAR FINALISTS

Heather Henry has been selected as one of the 21 finalists for 2007 National HIGH SCHOOL Junior of the year.  Coaches across the country were asked to nominate worthy candidates and to supply statistics and a narrative in support. The requirements were steep: to be considered, a top junior had to make a "massive" impact on her high school team and the state. "Massive" is a  subjective term, but at a minimum required that she have statistics that were the best on her team at her position and that she be one of the top players in her state regardless of class. Playing on a team that won a state title, advanced far in the state tournament and/or was nationally ranked was also helpful.

Heather Henry, 6-1 OH, Eden (NY) - A high jumping, hard-hitting left side with a huge ceiling, Henry led Eden to another state title, this year in Class C, and the distinction as the state's best team regardless of class. First Team All State, All Western New York and a member of the All-State Tournament team, Henry averaged nearly six kills per game, and totaled 100 more than her nearest teammate. She doesn't just dominate a game, front row and back, she demoralizes high quality opponents by just pounding them into submission.

12/10/2007 - LOCAL TEAM SELECTION 2008!!

The NFVB Board of Directors would like to thank all of the players that participated in the 2007-2008 tryouts.  We thank you for your patience in the selection process.  Nearly 500 athletes participated in the tryouts with over 400 players being placed on teams.
This was the most ambitious year for the NFVB, and we appreciate the commitment of the athletes to the promotion of the sport and admire the diligence of each participant that entered the court.  The selection process was extremely difficult, as the constraint of providing qualified coaches for each of the teams remained a consideration.  We hope to increase our staff next year through training and recruitment so that each athlete will be placed on an NFVB team in the future.
If you have been placed on a team below, your coach will be in contact with you over the next week to schedule a team meeting.  Your practices will begin after December 29th.  Listed are your teams practice dates and times.  Additional information will be provided to you at your team meeting.

05/03/2007 - CALLING ALL NFVB PARENTS!
In our club's quest to make progress in areas important to our members, the staff and coaches of our club are asking for your input. The club has developed a survey to help us identify areas where we can make improvements to serve our players. Coaches should be distributing copies of this survey at an upcoming practice or you can print a copy from the link below. Families can mail the completed surveys to the PO Box listed at the end of the questionnaire. All results will be summarized and presented to the staff at our summer meetings and to the coaching staff at next year's pre-season coaches meeting. Serious team or coach specific issues will remain anonymous and only discussed on an individual basis with concerned individuals by the club directo
